Cobby, Charles's Story

This whole Classmate thing thrust me into memory lane. Not a good thing. I remember walking into Ms. Brands' Spanish class totally unprepared for a test. Conjugate verbs? I had no idea what conjugate ment and as far as a verb? Expressing action. That was what was going to happen when my dad got my report card. Action was going to be noted. There was no way my dad was going to see an "F" as doing "fine". Most of my high school scholastic endeavors were in the "C" category which was cause for (C)elebration. During my senior year I remember a lot of the kids knew exactly what they were going to do/study when they graduated; doctors, lawyers, biologists, etc.. I was clueless and scared. Oh ya. I will go to college and I did. Now there is some good news. At the close of my first year (Pallomar J.C.) I was respectfully asked not to return the following year. It seems that the distribution and consumption of homemade beer from the trunk of your car was unacceptable/frowned on. I had always dreamed of traveling..... see the world. The Navy. I'll join the Navy and see the world; Japan (Geisha girls), Europe, Hawaii...... a girl in every port. See where this is going? Yes, it is all coming together. I joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, on a submarine tender, for four years. The USS Never Sail. Alas, even in the darkest hour there is hope. Southern Calif. beaches are blessed with treasures that rival the great pyramids and so my caravan rested. Just before my discharge I got married and my first civilian job was with Singer Kearfott in San Marcos. Six years later I went to work for the IVAC Corp in Serrento Valley, San Diego. Three years later I had the oportunity to leave the Manufacturing industry and work in the Medical field. Thus began my twelve years with Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. In 1985 I began running private medical group and dental group practices and did so until I retired from 1999. Somewhere in here I was blessed w...Expand for more
ith two wonderful daughters; Suzie and Lorrie. They were and are the joy of my life. One in Texas and the other in Calif.. My wife and I were to divorce sometime after I left Scripps. She was a good wife, great mom and is a super Grandma. While working for IVAC and Scripps I began the long journey of night school to repair the scholastic damage done in 1958-59 and earned my bachelor's degree in 1977. During this time I planned and implemented the largest move of medical equipment, personnel and patients in the history of San Diego county(at that time); from downtown La Jolla to Torrey Pines Mesa ( the now Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation). During this time period I worked to established the AYSO soccer program in San Marcos. One of my hats at Scripps was that of Satellite Administrator where I established and oversaw the operation of most . This is where I became interested in leaving the hospital arena for outpatient clinics. . Returning to memory lane I am amazed that anyone at the age of 17 or 18 knows exactly what they want to do with their lives and then achieve that goal. I was scared and that same panic hit me when I was discharged from the service; married and not a clue of what to do. My career just evolved. After retirement I went to work for the division of Game, Fish and Parks in South Dakota where I have received several letters of commendation, and two service awards as a seasonal employee of the year; one within my district and the other state wide. Since I have never had a life or career plan I can only imagine where lifes trail will take me. Something new this year, I took on a sales position within a motorcycle shop..... and I hate most sales personnel. Now I are one. OMG! Fast forward.... that gig was a disaster and so I went back to work for the Game, Fish and Parks. Now (2016) I have landed in Texas. No more RV'ing. Living on the road for 15 years is a bit much, at least for me. And so begins another adventure. Normality ???
